last night's sleep rating: D
late for rounds? nobody
I tried to watch football last night but found myself flipping again and again to the news channels to see if New Orleans had been transformed into Atlantis. My God, what an ugly storm. I didn't sleep well last night -- we're expecting rain ourselves -- and gave up on sleep around 4:30, listening to the news again while I got dressed and made my coffee. I ended up getting in really early and thought I would be the first one in, but instead I found all three of them sitting in my office: Cam and Chase sitting on the office chairs, leaning toward the television, Chase rolling my ball from hand to hand, Foreman standing behind them sipping his coffee. He looked up and nodded as I came in. They were watching a guy on a cable and harness pluck an evacuee from a hole chopped in a roof and hold on as they were both reeled up to the Coast Guard helicopter.
The New Orleans paper is only publishing online today. No water pressure, no electricity for maybe a month.... They're shipping the sickest folks out of the Superdome today, and I think I heard somewhere that they were using helicopters to evacuate the vent patients out of one of the hospitals.
I was thinking about going out this evening -- I heard a couple of TV shows are being released on DVD today -- but if it's raining I'll just do it online. It's just as well; I'll be online anyway. If I've got money for a new DVD set, I've got money for disaster relief. One of the nice things about online donations is that you can chip in for clothes and clean water -- and still blow off the hospital appeals. I've got an image to maintain, after all.

I've enjoyed this blog for a long time and never posted to tell you that, but I just had to say - great post. I'm in awe that you can stay in character, be funny ("I heard a couple of TV shows are being released on DVD today") and still manage to do a kind and relevant thing. Um, I mean ... thanks for the reminder about what's important, Dr. House.
Thanks, deekay.
deekay beat me to it and said exactly what I wanted to say. I have also been a fan of this blog since the beginning but have never posted. I hardly even know what to say about this entry except that it's just about perfect, especially in light of what's developed in the last 24 hours. Thanks for the gentle reminder.
Thanks, Beilstein. Thanks to you and deekay for de-lurking :)
